Types of Rigging Shackles and Their Importance

Rigging shackles are frequently used in various lifting operations, mainly as connecting parts. They are important connection tools between rigging and the lifted object. Zhonghe rigging shackles are forged from high-quality carbon structure or alloy structure and heat-treated, with large load capacity, flexibility, and reliability. Below, Zhonghe introduces the types and importance of rigging shackles.

Rigging Shackles Types

According to the shape of the bow

The types of rigging shackles are numerous. According to the shape of the bow, they can be divided into straight type (D type) and horseshoe type (bow type/B type).

  • D-type rigging shackles are mainly used for single-leg rigging connections;

  • B-type rigging shackles are mainly used for multi-leg rigging.

  • BW and DW type rigging shackles are mainly used in cases where the rigging does not rotate the pin;

  • BX and DX type rigging shackles are mainly used in cases where the pin may rotate or for long-term installations.

According to the connection form of the bolt and bow

According to the connection form of the bolt and bow, there are two types: screw type and loose pin type.

  • The screw type rigging shackle's pin and bow are connected by threads.

  • The loose pin type rigging shackle has two types of pins: round and oval. The pin and bow hole have a smooth contact and can be directly pulled out.

Importance of Rigging Shackles

Many times a single lifting ring needs to be connected to multiple lifting straps or wire rope rigging, but faces the problem that the inner diameter of the lifting ring is limited and can't accommodate multiple slings. Forcibly inserting them can only worsen the wear between the slings, leading to higher safety risks. To address this issue, you can use bow-type rigging shackles for connection, solving the problem by enlarging the inner diameter.

For some large equipment that uses fixed bolt lifting rings as connection points, these rings cannot tilt in different angles. Therefore, the lifting method mostly connects the rigging vertically to the ring and then uses a beam for single-point lifting. In this case, using rigging shackles shows an advantage, as rigging shackles can tilt at multiple angles, which helps avoid prying the bolt lifting ring during angled lifting operations, reduces the load, and significantly enhances the safety of lifting operations.

In summary, rigging shackles are the most commonly used connection tools in lifting operations. They are mainly used for frequently installed and removed connection points during lifting. When rigging is used in conjunction with a beam, rigging shackles can replace lifting rings at the top of the rigging to connect with ear plates under the beam, facilitating installation and removal. Rigging shackles are widely used in industries such as power, petroleum, machinery, wind power, chemical industry, ports, and construction, making them a very important connection part in lifting operations.
